The Mystery Piece
The Explanation
For lack of a better name, I have been calling this piece the fly wheel. I strongly suspect that it is not. The picture on the left shows this piece after I had created a plug for the clear epoxy. This side has become the bottom. It measures 13 7/8" in diameter by 1 7/8" deep. The hole in the center is 2 5/8" square. The wood is pine. While the top and bottom surfaces were smooth, the edge was carved.
This is the finished piece. It is a shallow, functional bowl which could be used for candy, fruit or chips. The square hole in the center is filled with clear epoxy. Unlike the other pieces in this show, it doesn't have a name nor does it have a story.
As of July 4, 2016, I still don't know what this piece was. This bowl has been sold. I strongly suspect that there is going to be some interesting speculation about this piece in its new home. |
